How We Got Started

In October 2011, a young man wanting to help the large population of homeless in his hometown discovered that socks have always been the one item least donated to homeless shelters, foster homes, and community centers. He also soon realized it was one of the items most requested. Hence the birth of Socktober, (socks plus October). Socktober gives all who participate the opportunity to have fun while making a positive difference in the lives of people in need.

Where We Are Now

Last year through generous donations from our community we were able to collect over 1,500 pairs of new socks!! We are thrilled with the participation and we look forward to another successful year. Our goal this year is 2,500 pairs of new socks to donate to those in need.

FUN SOCK FRIDAY

Wear a pair of FUN SOCKS to school every Friday. The winner of the FUNNEST socks will get a gift card from the Oakdale Sunrise Rotary. We are asking local employers to allow their staff members to dress casually and roll up their pants and show off their FUN SOCKS every Friday.

GET INVOLVED

We collected 1500 pairs in 2022 and are planning to collect 2500 in 2023!

Through the efforts of Oakdale Sunrise Rotary, the Oakdale School System, and the amazing small businesses and business owners, we are certain we can reach our goal this year. One of the best ways to help us this Socktober is to talk about it. Share our posts on your social. Start a Socktober fundraising jar at work for people to help donate change. Any way you can share information to others helps raise awareness about our homeless and families in need.
